President Yaradua initially wrote a letter to the Lagos state governor -Babatunde Fashola, asking him to revert to the initial number of local govt originally recognised by the law but Fashola has replied disagreeing that the local govt councils created by his predecessor Tinubu were not illegal but within the powers of the Lagos govt, informing him that it was not his duty to interprete the law but that of the courts. Most of this issues between the Lagos state govt and Abuja is due mainly, from my personal opinion, to the difference in political party. Yaradua belongs to the popular ruling PDP, while the Lagos state govt is run by an opposition party, the AC. There has been many disagreements between the two in the past and the PDP is battling hard to win the state in the upcoming election by 2011. There has been times when the PDP may have had a major claim to the governorship but the election period was marked with violence and political assassinations, one of which took the life of the PDP candidate at that time - Engineer Funsho Williams.
But really, I would support that the Local govt councils be reverted to the original number before the AC was involved in escalating the number. Due to the hugh number of LCDAs in the state, citizens in Lagos have been put through confusion and harassment as well as multiple taxation by councils who did not know where their jurisdiction begins or ends. It doesn't make sense just increasing the number of LCDAs just to claims funds from the Federal allocation without improving the lives of voters.
Again, it would be good if the Lagos state govt humbles itself to Abuja so that the state would be able to benefit easily from the Federal might without hindering goodwill in may development projects and opportunities.

In Reply to Between Fashola and Yaradua They should go to court. The president cannot just be harrassing governors. I think LCDAs are under the authority of their state governors
