What does a webmaster do when Google slaps him? I mean his website. Yes Google slaps websites on several occasions but not all websites, only those that copy content from other websites and republish them exactly as their own, word for word.
Well, may be for around a year or so, your site will be ranked pretty low or even deleted from the Google site index.
Google and other search engines really take non-original content or plagiarism seriously and punishes websites that just scrape content from other websites without creating their own.
I thought this problem of site copying was mostly popular in more technologically developed countries but I was surprised to see some Nigerian websites copying content from
my Blog. In noticed it on one blog post and I have an ugly feeling that there may be others.
Initially I was bothered about this as my own blog post on that particular topic has moved away from the first page of results with the fake sites taking over that page and I was worried that I was losing site traffic. There were a couple of things I could have done to punish the copycats which include:
- Reporting to their web hosting companies for site plagiarism and these include Hostgator, Bluehost, Godaddy, Netfirms or others
- Reporting to their advertisers such as Google adsense, Kontera, Clicksor, Textads and others
- Reporting to search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing and even Baidu
- Sending them a friendly email although this was not necessary to me
My Advantage
After sending some friendly emails to some webmasters, I grew tired but became more satisfied that my blog posts were being indexed by Google on a 6 hr basis from a post and that my ranking in search results for older post was improving. So what I noticed was that some of these Nigerian websites which copy content from my blog ere actually losing and I was winning since it appears that Google has already started SLAPPING them. Those supposed unoriginal Nigerian bloggers are maybe paid employees who just scrape content from my blog without their web administrator knowing and who will be the ultimate loser.
Want to Copy content from my Blog?
So If you want to keep on copying my Blog posts and republishing them on your Nigerian website, feel free to do so and just wait for the Google Slap.
