The website of the Lagos state Internal revenue service located at www.lirs.net actually has a lot of vital information for Lagosians when it comes to the payment of personal income tax. As we know, personal income tax is collectible by the State Internal Revenue services of the various states in Nigeria.
What I like about the LIRS website is that it allows you to access yourself online of your tax liability. Suppose you are earning say N1m a year and you use the online tax tool, it will be able to tell you the highest amount of tax you should pay for the year but this would be the highest amount prior to any deductions and reliefs that you are entitled to. In order to reduce your tax liability, the Personal Income Tax Act allows tax payers some benefits and deductions before arriving at your taxable income for the year.
Personal reliefs include personal allowances, life asuranncs policy payments, subscription to professional bodies, NHS and so on.

In order to reduce your tax liability, you should be able to include your allowed expenses and allowed deductions but if you just want to be able to view your maximum tax liability, just enter your total earning for the year and go to the final stage to view your tax liability.

However, the online tool is not legally binding as you can still do the calculation yourself, hire a tax consultant or so on before making any payment for your tax.

If you are an employee, don't bother yourself abut tax calculation as your employer would do that for you, just make sure that you are able to monitor the tax payment that has been made on your account as well as know your registered Tax id in case you leave that company in the near future.

Your overtime should also be taxed since it is a taxable income 2. Your tax due should be at most N7000/year if you are earning up to 120,000 a year There are several ways you can however reduce your tax liability such as by including up to 4 children and dependent relatives you have

To calculate personal tax, there is a format to follow. You could first of all get a copy of the Latest Personal Income Tax act of Nigeria. You would have to define the current income, deduct personal allowance and other decutions to arrive at your taxable income and tax liability.

It shouldn't be more than N40,000 per month assuming you have no children or dependent relatives.

Assuming it is N30,000 per year, then tax payable is nor supposed to be more than N250

@chukwudi, with a N500,000 annual basic income, your tax should not be more than N80,700 per year assuming you have no children and dependent relatives.

If you earned that amount per month, then you should be paying around N18,000 per month as PAYE tax.
