It has just been reported that John Atta Mills. sitting president of Ghana had just died at the age of 68 - 3 days after his birthday. He was reported to have been suffering from throat cancer and recently came back from the USA for a medical check up.Succession: The vice president John Dramani Mahama has already been sworn in as Ghana's president as this is the normal role for a VP. This is the second time in 2 years a vice president in West africa is becoming president after the demise of a sitting president. It was reported that Atta's death was sudden and unexpected. He became ill and was rushed to a military hospital but died a few hours later.He was vice president of Ghana from 1997 to 2001 and 8 years later he ran for the top office on the platform of the with which he won in landslide victory.He became president of Ghana in 2009 till July 2012, a period during which Ghana became a leading West African nation in terms of economy, steady power and politcal stability.
