it was reported on some newspapers and even on AIT that the fiery lawyer and SAN, Gani Fawehinmi had passed away in London as a result of a protacted lung cancer illness. i wonder how true this is?

i hear that he's only slighlty recovered from cancer. i hope he makes it. Most of our favourite elders are already dying gradually. It's like a generation is departing from us. Let's pray for them and most especially for Late Sunny Okosuns

Gani is actually dead now. Officially it has been reported that he died a couple of hours today. His health has not been well for some time now after battling cancer. Here is a piece from http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/News/National/5455767-146/Gani_Fawehinmi_dies_at_71_.csp :
Ganiyu Oyesola Fawehinmi, 71, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and former presidential aspirant, is dead. The prominent social activist was reported dead in the early hours of this morning, after a two-year battle with cancer.
Born on April 22, 1938, Gani dedicated his life to the defence of human rights and criticism of government insensitivity.
Mr Fawehinmi was the founder and presidential aspirant of the National Conscience Party in 2003.
