The office of the New Nigerian newspapers has been shut down over what is reported as non-payment of workers salaries. This is coming at a wrong time for the company which had been trying in vain not to go under.

This was taken from 234next.
"Workers of New Nigerian Newspapers Ltd Kaduna, on Monday, sealed the company's premises to protest the alleged non-payment of their seven months salaries.

The protesters, operating under the Joint Labour Unions, closed the main entrance into the company's premises, carrying placards and leaves.

The Chairman of the Newspaper chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akpus John, said the change in the ownership of the organisation, effected in 2006, had not improved the fortunes of the company.

The company was taken over by the northern state governments in September 2006 when the Federal government indicated its intention to privatise it.

The Managing Director of the company, Ndanusa Alao, said he had made several contacts with the governors to raise funds but the efforts did not yield any positive result.

"The governors' commitments have remained unfulfilled pledges. They, through the Northern Governors Forum, pledged to contribute for the running of the organisation and they promised to take over the payment of pension but all the pledges are yet to be redeemed," Mr. Alao said".
