Building a home vs Buying one

In most developed countries, people mostly just buy already built homes and furnish them, but in developing countries like Nigeria, people are more into building their own houses with their own savings. Although the practice of buying an already built home in becoming the growing trends in developing cities like Lagos and Abuja. People of fixed salaries and income can pay installmentally for homes they've purchased from real estate firms who have taken the initial risk to build the homes. If one decides to buy a home, it has some advantages but it also gets more expensive, however, the construction stress had already been borne by the firm. If you decide to build your own house, it could get cheaper and you could choose to use better quality materials for construction but you also have to do a lot of paper work with the authorities and it takes most of your time. Which one do you prefer, to build your own house or buy one already built?
