There has been a lot of public awareness lately from the popular card issuing company in Nigeria - Interswitch about the current phishing attacks on customers. Nigerians and particulary those who have been bitten by the scourge of this attack have began having cold feet about having any other ATM card after their first attempt. ATM cards appear to be going out of fashion or losing its popularity due to scammers and fraudsters who collect people's money from ATM machines and online without their consent. Numerous banks customers have complained bitterly to their most of which have poor customer service and this is not going to help the ATM issuers to continue doing busines in future if people begin rejecting their cards. However, Interswitch Nigeria and a host of other banks have been informing the public about their need to be security conscious when making use of their cards and where they keep it. If someone hac you card details together with your personal information or pin to anyone no matter the situation or relatinship. I think that includes your wife or children, don't give them your pin. If you can't handle an ATM card, you can as well cancel tha card at your bank and opt to withdraw money directly from your bank. We are in the computer age and the people that seem to be so much affected are the middle aged or old who know little about ATM cards or cyber-theft and how security conscious they ought to be. My mother for instance and father don't even use an atm card and I don't even want to encourage them cos i know it would not help them. There are many ways fraudsters attack and steal card details from customers and this include at ATM points using social engineering methods to view your pin or planting instruments on machine to seize cards, collecting personal information from fraudulent websites via text messages or phone calls pretending to be from your bank. So we need to be more careful about our personal information cos identify theft is on the rise.

Here is an example of a fraudulent site I've seen so far:
