  • Kessiena Kessington Meidevo - 07:58:19 02/02/10: FMBN: CASTING THE VICE PRESIDENT IN A HYPOCRITICAL LIGHT. Sir: In wake of recent retrenchments in Oceanic Bank and Intercontinental Bank, the Vice President , Goodluck Jonathan, summoned the managements of both banks and directed them to recall the sacked workers. It was due to the Vice President’s personal intervention that made the House of Representatives not to discuss the on the floor of the House. It is therefore incongruent with the Vice president’s interventionist role in the case of Oceanic Bank and Intercontinental Bank for Federal Mortgage Bank, a federal agency, to fire 15 percent of its workforce. This is a rather curious and inauspicious move by the management of FMBN because the action puts the Vice President across as having hypocritical tendencies. For what business has the Vice President in directing Oceanic Bank and Intercontinental Bank , both private institutions, to recall their sacked workers when FMBN, a public institution, has carried out a similar exercise without a whimper from the Vice President. However, as subsequent events have shown, it may be the case that themanagement ofFMBN took the action unilaterally without obtaining approval from the appropriate authority. This is because the Managing Director of the bank admitted on Channels Television that he did not obtain authorization from the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity. This prompted the Minister, Prince Adetokunbo Kayode, SAN, to ask the Managing Director of the bank to reverse the action and follow due process. If we stretch this as a conspiracy theory, we can suggest quite logically that the action of FMBN may be an indirect ploy to test the resolve of the Vice President and cast him in a hypocritical light. It may then be suggested that the Vice President lacks the guts to ask a public institution to back down on an action that is in direct contradiction to his stance on the issue. The case of FMBN thus presents the Nigerian public a golden opportunity to see if the Vice President is a man of sterner stuff who can hold his own on any issue. In this regard, the Vice President should stamp his authority by directing the management of FMBN to recall the sacked workers immediately or risk being sacked . This is the path of honour for the Vice President if he is to maintain his integrity in the circumstances; any other path of compromise may cast him as a hypocrite, if not a coward. • Okadi Daniel - 10:30:40 05/09/09: Gani's Death, a monumental loss to the masses of Nigeria. This is the saddest moment to the masses of Nigeria. Those in power should immortalize Gani by doing those principle Gani stood and died for. There should be equity and justice for all Nigerians. That was what Gani stood for.

  • As the nigeria come to the cross road due to the demand by the Niger Delta for increase stake in the oil business, it is left for the majority tribes to accommodates the minorities. Nobody will surrender his weapons until justice is done to all communities destroyed by the joint task force in the Niger Delta. As President Obama asked Africans to take their destiny with their own hands, we the people of the Niger Delta will certainly take President Obama's speech as a direct statement to the Niger Deltans to fight for our right from the oppressive regimes of the majority tribes. Obama will certainly recognise an independent Niger Delta Republic as the declaration will soon be made. Long live Niger Delta Republic. Long live the people of the new independent state. God bless you all. - Okadi Daniel - 15:01:39 23/07/09
